Job Description

Lead Hourly Pay Rate: $40.50

 

Required qualifications for this position:

  • Minimum of two years of K9 experience.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory or management experience needed.

 

The Explosive Detection Canine Handler-Lead position requires the individual to maintain, train, and utilize an Explosive Detection Canine to conduct routine, urgent, and emergency searches of motor vehicles, trucks, commercial premises, and sweeps of internal/external premises at various client locations. This individual will work primarily at larger client facilities leading a team of at least five Explosive Detection Canine Handlers.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a trained Explosive Detection Canine to conduct searches in/at assigned client sites, including corporate buildings, loading docks, delivery vehicles, open areas, sports venues, mass transit facilities and/or other situations as needed.
  • Assist and liaise effectively with the client’s security manager, law enforcement agencies, security personnel, and local partners or their representatives.
  • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to client site SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and POs (Post Orders)
  • Assist and liaise effectively with the client’s security manager, law enforcement agencies, security personnel, and local partners or their representatives.
  • Maintain and train assigned canine in accordance with canine care and training protocol.
  • Maintain direct client contact to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Lead EDC team at a larger facility and report any potential issues to Field Supervisors to enhance program efficiency.
  • Report any disciplinary action to the Field Supervisors as needed.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of military service, preferably in a combat deployment or other tactically operating capacity
  • 4+ years of a military K9 handler role with full military handler course
  • 4+ years in a law enforcement role and completed an accredited Law Enforcement Academy (Municipal/State/Federal)
  • 4+ years as a municipal or federal correctional officer and attended a full-time accredited LE/Corrections Academy (must have enforcement responsibilities)
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
  • Possess strong interpersonal relationship skills, with a unique ability to balance operational requirements with client needs.
  • Ability to balance multiple competing tasks in a time compressed environment while generating quality results.
  • Ability to administer conflict resolution and ensure execution of appropriate incident reporting when necessary.
  • Demonstrated independent analytical problem-solving ability.
  • Have a working Smartphone capable of receiving/accepting voice mails and a computer to enable you to set-up and access MSA Security company email, and MSA Scheduling applications.
  • Must be responsive to telephone calls from Scheduling both when receiving their weekly schedules and when contacted by Scheduling for unscheduled or emergency fill-in tours
  • Possess a dependable personal vehicle to transport yourself and your EDC to and from various client locations.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain your NYS Security Guard (unarmed/armed) license; SORA and any other applicable licensing/credentialing documents.
  • Must have adequate housing, and a place to train, care for, and maintain the needs of the assigned canine.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications preferred

Physical/Work Requirements

  • Ability to complete 2-week initial EDCH training that includes managing and physically directing the canine, throughout obstacles in secure and fluid fashion as if on the job.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, crouch and pull throughout 8-, 10- or 12-hour shifts, and in all types of weather.
  • Ability to work on a week-by-week basis and an ever-changing schedule, which includes, but is not limited to days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift between 50-100 pounds of weight.
